Due to the current political climate between the United States and China, logistics for obtaining a visa to China, and feedback from Dojang Owners, the 2020 Asia Trip has been updated: The U.S. Taekwondo Committee Ultimate Korea Trip will only travel to South Korea and no longer include a stay in China.
The dates and length of the trip will remain the same: June 14-June 24, 2020 (11 days total — 10 days and 9 nights in Korea – 1 day of travel). The schedule (subject to change) is below.
The extended stay in Korea will allow for additional Taekwondo training opportunities, and a more comprehensive tour of Korean historical and cultural sites.
Ultimate Korea Trip
United States Taekwondo Committee has successfully conducted the U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang for the past 11 years. Many participants from across the United States have expressed their interest in visiting the birthplace of Taekwondo – Korea.
Beginning in 2020, U.S. Taekwondo Committee will begin having bi-annual trips to Korea. In the years that the Asia Trip takes place there will be U.S. National Taekwondo Hanmadang Regional Events throughout the year (in addition to the Official State Taekwondo Hanmadangs). The U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang will be held every two years instead of annually.
The 1st Ultimate Korea Trip that will take place June 14-June 24, 2020 (11 days total — 10 days and 9 nights in Korea – 1 day of travel). The schedule (subject to change) is below.
In Korea, we will visit Seoul, Taekwondowon in Muju, Kukkiwon, Gyeongju (Capital of the Silla Dynasty) and other attractions.
The price per person is approximately $3,500. The price includes round trip airfare, lodging, local transportation, and meals. There will be several payment plans in an effort to ease the financial burden on participants. The Ultimate Korea Trip is limited to the first 150 people.
Payment Plans
The total cost of the Excursion is between $3,200-$4,100 per person (Depending on the payment plan and if your Dojang is a member of the U.S. Taekwondo Committee – see below). This includes the airfare of $1,500 per person. The airfare payment must be paid in full no later than December 31, 2019.
The remaining amount must be received no later than April 20, 2020. Payment must be made online at www.usopentkd.com.

Other Details
- The price per person is based off of Double Occupancy for each hotel room.
- You can pay an additional $600 if you want to have your own room.
- There is the option to have triple or quadruple occupancy to save money on the trip. Triple or quadruple occupancy will NOT include any additional beds (cot or roller bed). All occupants must share the 2 beds. This option saves $300 for the 3rd and 4th
- The maximum is 4 people per room.
- EXAMPLE: John and Sally Smith have a 10 year old son. The Smith family of 3 can stay in 1 hotel room.
- John Smith — $3,500
- Sally Smith — $3,500
- Son Smith — $3,200
- You do not need to be a Taekwondo practitioner to attend this trip
- Example: John Smith is a 10 year old black belt. Mom and dad can attend this trip with John Smith.
- If you are a non-taekwondo practitioner there will be tour options during the Taekwondo training times OR you can stay and watch your family members.
- There is no age minimum to participate in the trip. If a child is under the age of 3, there is no additional fee for the infant. However, the infant will have to occupy the same seat as the parent.
- Every participant must pay at least $ 1,500 no later than December 31, 2019 in order to receive the lowest possible group airfare rate.
- The additional funds will cover hotel, meals, local transportation, and all event entry fees.
- Each participant MUST have a current government issued passport (any country) that does NOT expire before December 31, 2020. Participants do NOT have to be U.S. citizens to participate in this trip.
- A visa is not required for entry into South Korea
- Once each participant pays the $1,500 fee by December 31, 2019 the travel agent will contact you directly to finalize the travel itinerary.
- Participants do have the option to upgrade hotel rooms and flights (at an additional cost). Upgrades to plane and hotel room will be handled directly with the travel agent.
- Each traveler should bring any medications that they may be taking. Do not expect to get them while overseas.
- Travelers Insurance is an option that each travel may consider purchasing to cover any unexpected interruptions of travel during the excursion.
- Each traveler must sign a Liability Waiver and Code of Conduct.
