The U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang Organizing Committee is proud to offer Para-Taekwondo events.

Para- Taekwondo divisions will be divided into:

  • Intellectual/Developmental Impairments
  • Motor/Physical Impairments
  • Visual Impairment

The above categories are the typical divisions in paralympic sports.  However, there are many sub-divisions (classification) within one disability group.

For example a person with cerebral palsy may be mobile with slight paralysis to one in a wheelchair. It would be best to have this participant type in their impairment, so we can be better prepared and also divide the divisions according to ability

Deaf/Hard of Hearing is officially not a Paralympic Sport. Athletes that are Deaf/Hard of Hearing should register in the regular divisions are they are very able-bodied to compete against others (unless they have other challenges as well (ie. deaf and down syndrome).  When registering in the regular division please enter in the “notes” section if you are deaf/hard of hearing

There will only be 2 events: Individual Creative Board Breaking PARA (ICBP) and Individual Traditional Forms  PARA (ITFP )

Individual Traditional Forms Para (ITFP) vs. Individual Traditional Forms (ITF)

  1. ITF = 90 seconds to perform; ITFP =120 seconds to perform
  2. ITF = must perform Kukkiwon Poomsae designated by Geup/Dan; ITFP = Can perform any Kukkiwon Poomsae (NOT ITF, ATA, etc) regardless of Geup/Dan
  3. ITF = must perform poomsae independently; ITFP = participants will be allowed to have an aide – it could be their parent, support worker, instructor. As often many para athletes may require assistance with bathroom, mobility access, or just overcoming their anxiety. This is done in all para/disability sports
  4. Aides MUST register online like any participant to sign waiver and acquire badge.  Aides will NOT have to pay to serve in this role.  There will be a code given to “zero” out the invoice
