Kukkiwon Expands International Presence with New U.S. Branches

Seoul, South Korea – The Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters, is proud to announce the establishment of new overseas branches in the United States, including New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Illinois, Texas, Florida, and California, alongside the formation of the 45 State (including Puerto Rico and Guam) Kukkiwon Branch Alliance. This strategic expansion aims to further the mission of Kukkiwon and promote Taekwondo across the nation.

During a special appointment ceremony held on October 22, 2024, at the Kukkiwon in Seoul, Korea, Kukkiwon President LEE, Dong-Sup, officially introduced the Directors for each state branch:

• New York: KIM, Sam-Jang
• New Jersey: JEONG, Dae-Sung
• Virginia: CHOI, Eung-Gil
• Illinois: LEE, Chul-Woo
• Texas: LEE, Hee-Chul
• Florida: OH, Joo-Yeol
• California: SHIN, Yong-Sup
• 45 State Kukkiwon Branch Alliance: LEE, Sang-Chul

In a landmark decision, the eight U.S. Branch Directors unanimously elected Sang Chul Lee as the leader for all Kukkiwon branches in the United States. Under his guidance, these branches will work collaboratively to uphold the values and mission of Kukkiwon, promoting the art of Taekwondo and fostering a spirit of unity among practitioners.

“We are excited to see the growth of Kukkiwon in the United States,” said President Lee. “These new branches will not only strengthen our global network but also enhance the accessibility of Taekwondo training and education for enthusiasts across the country.”
