The U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang is proud to announce the inaugural William J. Hybl scholarship awards. $14,000 will be awarded at the 12th Annual U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang which will be held Friday July 28 and Saturday July 29, 2023 at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs, CO – Olympic City USA.
William Hybl has been instrumental to the Olympic Taekwondo movement in the United States and world. Mr. Hybl was the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) President during four Olympic Games. He is also a Former member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Former 1st Vice President of World Taekwondo (WT), Chairman of the United States Olympic Foundation, Former Chairman and current Vice Chairman of U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy, and Chairman of the El Pomar Foundation.
William Hybl has served as the Honorary Organizing Committee Chairman of the U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang since 2012.
In 2019, Mr. Hybl’s face was on all of the medals for the U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang to honor him for his leadership and support of the Taekwondo movement.
The William Hybl Scholarship Award is a cash prize and will be provided to the winners of the Demonstration Team competitions in the below format:
Demonstration Team Championship Division
1st place – $3,000
2nd place – $2,500
3rd place – $2,000
4th place – $750
5th place – $500
Demonstration Team Recreational Division
1st place – $2,000
2nd place – $1,500
3rd place – $1,000
4th place – $500
5th place – $250
